Facilities

Explore a connected network of lab, core, and incubator facilities across Montana, designed for bioscience companies, translational researchers, and industry partners who need serious infrastructure, not generic co-working space.

Bozeman · MSU Innovation Campus

MSU Innovation Campus

Once complete, the campus will be home to more than 500,000 SF of tech, biotech, healthcare, and office space. The project plans include more than a dozen potential buildings, including specialized labs, makerspaces, research offices, and manufacturing spaces. The goal of the campus is to support the research, technology transfer, entrepreneurial, and economic development activities of the local private sector, Montana State University, the overall region, and the state.

Bozeman is home to the Center for Biofilm Engineering (CBE), a world-recognized transdisciplinary bio‑research center, and supports over 1,300 clinical trials at sites such as the Billings Clinic. Companies benefit from a deep bench of scientific collaborators and one of the lightest tax burdens in the country.

  • Flexible wet lab and office configurations for small teams to anchor tenants
  • Direct adjacency to MSU faculty, students, and research centers
  • Access to the Headwaters Tech Hub innovation ecosystem
  • Support for collaborations with clinical partners across Montana

Bozeman · Montana State University

MSU Core Research Facilities

Montana State University (MSU) in Bozeman is home to a robust network of core facilities that support cutting-edge research and collaboration across academia and industry. These shared resources provide access to expert staff and advanced instrumentation, enabling projects that would be cost‑prohibitive for a single organization.

Key core facilities for bioscience teams

  • Cryo-Electron Microscopy Facility – high-resolution structural imaging for proteins, complexes, and pathogens.
  • Mass Spectrometry Facility – molecular identification, metabolomics, and proteomics workflows.
  • Cellular Analysis Core – flow cytometry, single-cell analysis, and cell sorting to support immunology and oncology programs.
  • Imaging and Chemical Analysis Laboratory – materials and surface characterization for devices, sensors, and biomaterials.

Whether you’re advancing biomedical research or developing new diagnostics and devices, MSU’s core facilities give you the analytical backbone to validate and de‑risk your work without building every capability in‑house.

Missoula · Montana Innovation Corridor

Montana Technology Center (MonTEC)

Nestled along the Clark Fork River in Missoula, the Montana Technology Enterprise Center (MonTEC) is a dynamic nonprofit incubator dedicated to accelerating high‑growth, technology‑driven startups. With a strong emphasis on biosciences, MonTEC offers cutting-edge lab facilities, expert mentorship, and seamless access to University of Montana resources.

It serves as a launchpad for ventures in biotech, diagnostics, renewable chemistry, and more. As the cornerstone of the Montana Innovation Corridor, MonTEC fosters a vibrant community where collaboration sparks innovation, and its tenants have collectively secured significant private and public funding.

  • Wet lab and dry lab spaces designed for early-stage companies
  • Connection to University of Montana faculty, students, and clinical partners
  • Programming, mentorship, and investor introductions for bioscience founders
  • Community of peers building diagnostics, digital health, and sustainable chemistry solutions

Best fit for:

  • Pre‑seed to Series A startups in biotech and diagnostics
  • Teams needing a combination of bench space and collaborative offices
  • Founders seeking hands-on support from experienced operators and mentors

Best fit for:

MonTEC is advancing Phase One of the Innovation Corridor Gateway, a next-generation innovation facility located along the Clark Fork River at the eastern gateway to downtown Missoula.

The planned multi-story, approximately 80,000-square-foot facility will provide flexible laboratory, biomanufacturing, and office space designed to support the full lifecycle of technology companies—from research and prototype development to early-stage commercialization.

A central feature of Phase One will be GMP-ready biomanufacturing space designed to support small-batch pharmaceutical and biologics production. The facility will provide modular laboratory environments capable of supporting BSL-2 compliant manufacturing operations, allowing companies to transition from discovery and pilot production into regulated manufacturing without leaving the region.
